The Battle So Far

Timothy Abegunde - Nigeria

This time, it wasn’t a dream non a trance;
I wasn’t feasting as I would have love to,
The arena for the battle was set in reality…

I found myself in the centre of life’s heavy weights champions
As I wondered if the subtle clash was a vision or happening in its authenticity,
I tried to walk out of the battle-ring to watch as a spectator…

Though slowly but with maximum coercion, delay drew me back…

Responsibilities shook me and I staggered weakly,
Silently within, I planned to throw in the towel…

Rejection yet gave me a force-filled slap and
I collapsed…I wished all had been a joke.

But no…
I cried, shattering on the platform of challenges;
Desiring that family and friends should help my wrangle
See…I saw you wrestle too, I couldn’t call

Still in the battle arena of reality
I saw financial demands approaching me hurriedly
‘I’m a way too young for you.’ I wailed.
But no…
They trampled on me with huge booths of dogmatism

Altogether, the titans of reality crushed me
And I felt I would never make it

But no…
Hope…Hope…Hope cries within
‘Christ in me the Hope of glory’

I had not warred in the fight, for ignorance chained me.

I implore the defensive,
‘The name of the Lord is a strong tower,
The righteous run into it and were saved.’
And straightway, the stings of self-condemnation and defeat dissolved

Then, I explore the offensive,
‘At the mention of the name of Jesus all knee should bow.’
I cried out the saving name and the oppositions begged out

And yes…
In the quest against the giants of reality,
I was gradually re-energized…through gratitude and thanksgiving

But…

The battle continues…

What’s more…
The Lord of Host assured me of victory on His side.

MORE THAN JUST RHYMES

                                                                                                                        Timothy Abegunde- Nigeria
I prayed for the auction to function not only for myself but also for the congregation. The following is what I got after the intercession:

“Don’t seek for lifeless innovation. Perspire for real revelation. Be cautioned when you get those inspirations; for without sincere consecration your manifestation will not have divine impartation. Be submissive to the administration even when you protrude powerful ministration. Your admonition can only yield positive infection when there is heavenly intervention.

“Endeavour to preach sanctification before beautification. Encourage brethren with great missions so that they will achieve great vision. The Divine is faithful; He will reward every dedication with promotion.

“You however must not forget to always give God the adoration. Only God can cause meaningful transition for transformation. Make sincere evaluation of all situations and information and deduce sensible interpretation before any sort of application. You see, the devil goes to the Almighty with meagre accusations. Therefore, you need to work in all God’s instructions. Sometimes, there is need for demolition and rebuilding of character with separation and amalgamation of habits. For example, it is not all times that imitation is limitation; don’t allow intimidation. You could be saved from destruction by simple submission.

“Love and never allow infatuation. Why should fornication be heard among us? Abomination! Anyway, genuine confession, repentance and restitution will work out genuine salvation and there will be remission of your sins.”

THE BATTLE SO FAR

Timothy Abegunde - Nigeria

In a feast, I came in this year
Ignorant of the continuous battle in transition
The battle for who will be the lord of my soul
The clash that will determine who rules the now
The battle for who get the praise of my next story

Still in my banquet; unaware me
I perceived a sparkle – a flash of the war
The lord of sin and death reached out for my soul
He threw his jabs of hate and lust

‘Mercy!’
The MORNING STAR rose in me for a defense

The monster yet approached me with fury
He threw me a blow of pride and envy

‘Mercy!’
The HAND THAT KNEW NO SIN blocked the fist

Again the accuser loomed with fierce rage
His eyes burning with fury, he struck me with a slap of ignorance
And I cried, ‘There is a thorn in my flesh!’

The SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS arose with healing in His wings
He patted me saying, ‘My grace is sufficient for you’

I jerked in strength, though weak

Then what…

The beast roared, called out his agents

In reality, I still dine, oblivious of hell’s new strategy

The demons injected me and I fell flat, frail

Soon, the LIGHT OF MEN shone on me,
Extends His two edged sword to me
My eyes opened, I was spirited
‘He was wounded for my transgressions
He was bruised for my iniquities
The chastisement of my peace was upon him
And with His stripes I am healed’

By grace, I resisted the devil, he fleed

But…

The battle continues…

What more…
The PRINCE OF PEACE assured me of victory on His side

MANIFESTATIONS

                                                                                                                 Timothy Abegunde - Nigeria
The CREATIONS enerstly await a change
The creations are ill-fed, unfit to be staged
The evil one had touched the cosmoses
The works of the beginning are crashing
Tribulation and suffering eat up the creations
Now, we hear the whole creation cry,
“Where are the SONS OF GOD ?!”

The manifestation of the various ones are faulty

The DANCING ONES are short of steps
The are naive of moves that could relief the creation

The SINGING ONES now use high pitched sonority
With time the singing birds and their songs fade out

The creations yet wail for better existence

The STUDIOUS ONES continuously investigate man’s calamity
The discoveries, the statistics and assumption of the geniuses
Are clueless of the creations’ inner pains -
Their mundanities just tickle our senses, we are mal-satisfied

Wind of change blows and we see the RICH ONES
The wealthy ones in sequence vomit promises
As the creations handle these consolations,… they are vain

Like ants before the elephants, we summon the FAMOUS ONES
But, the popular ones are themselves helpless – check their shells

Consequently, with passion like of stormy sea
The RELIGIOUS ONES climb the podium of manifestation,
Call the entire creation, exposing our deformities,
Soothing us with streams of possibilities of miracles,
“Will the lame walk, will water fuel fire ?
Will the blind see, will the trees now talk ?
Will the dead rise, will beasts run our errands ?”
The religious ones discharge words like of thunder,
Yet nothing happen, we just pretend in our mythical museums
Obviously, religion just spray perfumes on our caskets…

Oh my…!
The creations worsen in relation to the Creator !
“Where are the SONS OF GOD ?!”

Untill the God-representatives emerge and take-charge
Real manisfestation that soothe man remains a mirage…

IDOLS

                                                                                                                 Timothy Abegunde - Nigeria

The religion sikhism was born out of abhorrence and opposition to idols. I read through a publication on world religions and noticed an irony; the skihs believed in sacredness, thus a transitory sacred literature - the 'granth' emerges. The Sikhs placed high regards on their sacred book; dressed it in costly brocade and sit it on a jeweled canopy throne. Soon, they began to worship their sacred writings. Thus, the religion that began by repudiating idols now idolizes its own sacred book.

World history record birth of several levels and degrees of religions as a result of man's endless internal crave to worship something. Generally, humans tend to believe that there is a supernatural power that tends to effect our living. Even science of evolution idealizes that there is an initial force that sparked up something that gradually, in time lead to everything.

Every man revere something(s) – whether consciously or otherwise; It is our in-born nature
(You can examine yourself and confirm that). Even the bad guys as we call it (their chiefs - Hitler, Napoleon, Capone, Pharaoh, Osama Bin Ladin and many more) do the evil they did out of deep desire for something - something they love or believe in - say for example power, fame, wealth, religion among many more.

Again, every being tends to worship that which he worships until that which he worships begins to influence him to influence himself or/and others (pun intended). It happens to us all, very consistently. Let me at this junction ask, 'What/who do you worship? What/who is your idol?'

Now, don't be quick to answer me by saying 'God': Somehow, our generation had seen the worship of God as the ultimate, a modern or civilized phenomenon; God been the corresponding idol. But truth is, that deduction had been right only in the outward; a social thing. God till now seeks worshippers. Those who will see reverence to their creator in spirit and in truth as their only desire. This consciousness will eventually place you on the track he actually predestined for mankind through Christ Jesus.

This my point: If your Creator is your Idol, other things he created will make you their Idol. If you make other things he created your idols he will move away from you, hoping that one day you will see the simplicity of worship.
